VMC Operator A

Summary: Fully capable to set up and operate any CNC Vertical Machining Center machine in the department.  Will be capable of programming any part in department.  Other duties may be assigned.

Reads process sheets, job folders, blueprints, and work instructions of part to determine machining to be done, dimensional specifications, set up, and operating requirements.

Maintain job folder integrity. 

Repair/adjust set-ups and tooling, troubleshoot nonconforming processes.

Selects and installs preset tooling in machine in sequence specified on process sheet.

Observes numerical displays on control panel and compares with data on process sheet to verify dimensional adjustments, feed rates, and speeds of machining cuts.

Inspects first run piece and spot checks succeeding pieces for conformance to specifications.

Studies job packet and organizes materials for next run.

Sets up and operates another machine.

Education and/or Experience

Seven to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to apply concepts of advanced algebra, trigonometry and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software; manufacturing software, machine programming and Word processing software.

Other Skills and Abilities

Advanced blue print reading.  Ability to set-up and operate all machines in department.  Upper level skill set to program and make machine adjustments.  Must possess a high level of gauging and inspection knowledge.  Competent to give first and last piece inspection.  Experienced with Fanuc, Haas and Okuma OSP controls.  Good understanding of Geometric Tolerance.  Must understand G and M codes.  Operate two machines at a time.  Proficient in problem solving.
