In short, CEF can design and build nearly every mechanical and electro-mechanical component needed for a cargo handling system.  CEF is by far the world leader in installed electro-mechanical cargo handling systems on military transport aircraft.  Almost every military transport aircraft that has an enhanced (non-mechanical) cargo handling system that is currently flying or in development utilizes CEF technology.

In the 1990’s CEF began our discussions with Lockheed Martin for the enhanced cargo handling system and ADS system on the C-130J.  Initially we provided a modified actuator for use in the pallet lockbox and Towplate release mechanisms.    Our actuators worked great but there was some difficulty integrating them along with all of the other mechanical and electro-mechanical components in the system.  CEF worked with Lockheed Martin to come up with a solution for this integration issue and the conclusion was reached that CEF should manufacture, assemble and test these finished components more on a subassembly level.

Cargo Handling Towplate AssemblyCEF was able to use our existing capabilities and expertise to build and assemble complete guide rails, conveyor rollers, ramp ADS (Aerial Delivery System) arms, lockboxes and the like.  Today, we supply each C-130J with over 75 component LRU parts. This is a true success story for both CEF Industries and Lockheed Martin.

On another project we were tasked with designing a towplate release mechanism that would fit into a very tight space requirement.  Additionally, this towplate release mechanism needed to have multiple modes of redundancy.  CEF quickly analyzed the requirements, created a design and within several weeks presented an animated 3-D model that met all of the requirements.

Cargo Roller AssemblyWhen we were tasked with coming up with a very high speed, high capacity cargo roller, CEF once again reviewed the requirements and presented a model that could survive under extreme conditions and also made the same design light weight and affordable.

CEF was put under contract to create a teaching tool for the loadmaster instructors to use in training the new loadmasters in the proper use and function of the cargo lockboxes.  We in turn created a functioning cut away version of the lockbox with a Plexiglas  cover and a replicated command box complete with a 28VDC/110 VAC inverter to use in a classroom setting.   Our customer has been thrilled with the results and this product is now being brought into the training curriculum for loadmasters.
